Avalon series, book 4, hardcover

'Priestess of Avalon' is the fourth book in the famous Avalon trilogy, which also includes 'Mists of Avalon', 'The House in the Woods' and 'Lady of Avalon'. This book tells the compelling story of Eilan, the daughter of high priestess Rian of Avalon, who dies giving birth to her fifth child.

Merlin, the legendary wizard, discovers a prophecy in the stars: "The child who will be born on the first day of autumn, when night turns to day, will stand at the turning point of time and will be the bridge between two worlds. ." This prophecy seems to foretell a great future for Eilan, but she is unlike any other priestess of Avalon.

Eilan's father, King Coel, decides to give her a Roman education. When Eilan is ten years old, he takes her back to Avalon, the mystical place of her birth. Here she will be trained as a priestess and learn the will of the gods. However, her aunt Ganeda, also high priestess, is determined to let Eilan fail. Despite Ganeda's opposition, Eilan succeeds.

During her initiation as a priestess, Eilan has a vision of the man who will become the father of her child, the child who will free England from the Roman yoke. Years later, she meets this man, the young Roman Constantius, and spends a night of passion with him. Their affair is discovered, and both are banished from Avalon. Constantius returns to Rome and becomes increasingly powerful, making Merlin's prophecy seem irrevocably true.
